Historical Personages
This is a website about Robert Eric Hill who lived from 1917 to 2002, saw much change and visited many places. It's not a biography but snapshots of his life. The site uses his World War II diary and various notes of his and includes his escape from the Lancastria disaster in 1940 - the worst shipping tragedy ever, but almost unknown. He rarely talked about it and only twice discussed it very rarely – he found the experience very hard and never swam again in his life after that experience. The site was edited by his son Richard who did not know him well, as his father spent most of his life living as an expatriate, and did not discover he had a brother, as well as two sisters, until 1996. more info >>
